“Curno” Shopping Center

ISOCAF S.R.L. has recently completed a highly specialized intervention on one of the most prominent commercial roofing systems in Lombardy: the Curno Shopping Center, located just outside Bergamo. A landmark for the entire province since the 1990s, the center underwent a major redevelopment aimed at ensuring energy performance, durability, and safety in line with today’s standards.

The works, which began in September 2023, covered a total surface of 34,723 m² and were carried out in three operational phases. They included certified waterproofing solutions tailored to a complex and articulated structure. In the ballasted roofing area, the entire waterproof membrane beneath the existing ballast was replaced, preserving the structural layout. For the gallery section, a mechanically fastened exposed TPO membrane was applied—an optimal solution for high-exposure continuous roofs, ensuring excellent durability and mechanical resistance.

A crucial phase of the project involved seismic upgrading of a portion of the roof, which required the complete removal of the existing slab and the construction of a new structural system consisting of BAC ACIER corrugated steel decking, thermal insulation, and multilayer waterproofing systems. The result is a roof that complies with the latest seismic regulations, without compromising efficiency and reliability.

The project also included the full replacement of all skylights, now built with high-performance materials for improved insulation and light transmission, as well as the installation of permanent ballasted guardrails to allow safe rooftop access for future maintenance. Perimeter planters were fully waterproofed, preserving the original design and ensuring long-lasting waterproof performance.

This project is a tangible example of large-scale waterproofing applied to high-complexity environments. In particular, the extensive presence of technical systems, ducting, pipelines, and equipment installed directly on the roof required meticulous execution planning and extremely careful operational management.
